The Annual Walk In The Forest for area school children included a Wiregrass Birding Trail Dedication on Wednesday April 16th. Attendance was nearly 400 people including students, teachers, parents, United States Forest Service personnel, State Forestry Commission personnel and Alabama Extension System (ACES) employees. The children numbered around 350 for all three days. The Andalusia Star News covered the event. Dale Arrowood with Winged Ambassadors brought his collection of Raptors and Jimmy Stiles brought his collection of reptiles and amphibians. The U.S. Forest Service and Alabama Forestry Commission did several prescribed control burn demonstrations. All in all, area school children enjoyed several great days experiencing the wonders of Alabama’s outdoors and enjoyed learning about birds and the habitats that make birding possible in the Conecuh National Forest.
