$40AESB BIRDING TRIP TO MOBILE BAY VIA THE DELTA QUEEN FROM BLAKELEY HISTORIC STATE PARK
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2017
Karen Chiasson, Ann McLaurin and I went out on the Delta Explorer from Blakeley yesterday morning scouting for next Wednesday’s trip. We found good birds as we went south to the Causeway. There was a good assortment of ducks, and shorebirds. We had a Peregrine, and Eagle sitting on the flats on which we were anchored as well as Northern Harrier and Red-tailed Hawk. We had egrets, herons, terns, gulls, shorebirds, herons, American White Pelicans, and ibis. All in all we were very pleased with the birds and believe this will be a great trip. NO GUARANTEES ON BIRDS OR WEATHER EVER!!!
The Delta Explorer is a covered pontoon boat that can accommodate almost 50 persons with seating in a covered area. It is piloted by a Coast Guard certified captain. There is a rest room on board with a newly installed electric flush toilet!!
Captain Steve suggested we might want to pull up to the back dock of the Blue Gill ( which is the general area we will be birding), and have lunch there.
The proposal is that the Blue Gill will offer three options on their lunch menu for $15.00 which would include food, drink, gratuity, and tax. The boat trip would be $25 which is the regular price for the two hour trip thus making the total costs of $40 paid to Blakeley. We will leave the boat launch at 9:00 and bird until 11:00. Lunch will follow and we will return to Blakely by 12:45 or 1:00. We will need a minimum of 25 to make the trip available.
Reservations, payment and lunch menu options will be made through Blakeley’s office. ( 251-626-5581). Any seats we do not reserve will be made available to the public through the Park marketing.
I need to know the exact number of participants by Thursday evening so I can confirm with Blakeley for our trip next Wednesday, January 18th. We need 25 participants to make this happen.
Please email me ASAP (aesbrlf1@gmail.com) if you would like to be included in this trip.
